This information is outdated. It didn't work on mine. Although I'm not using the tv screen to do it. I'm using the receiver's display.

Thank you for your feedback! This specific article will help you set up your TX-NR696 using the TV display.

This is outrageous. I cannot get the wired speakers to play simply because I cannot get past the initial set up stage. The speakers are working because I was able to check them on the calibration mode. I cannot get the display on the TV. I am using the Optical connection which shows on the TV display but no guidance as to how to move forward. What happened to plug and play.??!!

    Hello Papine01,

Below is showing how to if you don't want to complete the initial setup right away.

--If you have terminated the Initial Setup halfway, turn this unit into standby mode. Then turning the power on again can display the Initial Setup again. The Initial Setup appears on the screen each time the power is turned on unless the Initial Set up is completed or "Never Show Again" is selected on the first screen.

I'm not understanding your statement, " I cannot get the display on the TV. I am using the Optical connection which shows on the TV display but no guidance as to how to move forward." The optical connection is not the source of video but only audio. So, I don't understand how you’re saying you’re getting video onto the tv. What are the other connections from the receiver to the tv? Are you able to get picture from the sources that are going through the receiver?

    Thank you

    Jennifer
