Hello Christopher,
What is the model number of the LGTV so that I can provide the proper connection that you can use for the audio to play through the receiver. Providing below what the receiver does support for audio; 2 digital connections(optical and coaxial) and also the rca inputs.
Optical/Coaxial digital connections
RCA input
Thank you,
Jennifer

There’s no sound output from my Onkyo TX-NR838. It powers on all right.

Hello Kennedy,
Have you tried to run the test tones through the receiver to see if you are able to output sound through the speakers? If you have done that, then you can try to reset the receiver(if you haven't already done so). Below is the procedure to reset the receiver. After you perform the reset run the test tones again through the receiver. If you are still not getting any sound then there is an internal issue within the receiver. Unfortunately, due to the age of this unit the parts are no longer available.
