Oct 30, 2024 -- I purchased this TX-RZ50 to replace an Onkyo TX-NR828 that I bought Feb 2015. It suddenly "died" Sept 2024. Question to repair OR replace with 2024 "new & improved" technology? MY speakers were/are set up for that Onkyo TX-NR828 with 8 front speakers including the sub woofer. THIS 2024 "new & improved" Onkyo TX-RZ50 is configured for ONLY 6 front speakers. WHY would a manufacturer revert to LESSER capabilities? AND what rocket scientist at Onkyo thought moving the only USB port to the BACK was a good idea? There are already numerous HDMI ports on the back so WHY is another needed on the front vs the only USB port? VERY Frustrated with both the changes and a manual that has numerous speaker layouts that IF I could afford I would have purchased a much more expensive machine than a TX-RZ50.
Hello Susan,
Depending upon the issue that you are having with the TXNR828 the parts may not be available. If you are wanting the unit to be repaired, it would be suggested to contact the service center(https://onkyo.com/service-centers) for them to check the parts availability. As far as the TXRZ50, this receiver does have the ability of 2 sets of Height speakers when the NR828 had Height and Wide speakers. You would have to put the receiver in 7.1.4 configuration so that you can have 2 pairs of height speakers to work at the same time. Then within the setup you set the placement of the speaker are going to be. As far as the USB connection to be used as usb playback but the placement in the rear is to also help with devices that you would to connect through the receiver that would get powered via USB. If the USB power function is something that you would like to use, you would need to check the specifications on that device if it supports (5 V/1 A). If the device is over the supported spec (5 V/1 A) it may not work for audio/video for that device and would have to be connect to an power outlet for full operation for that device.
Thank you
Jennifer

Uwe
Hello Uwe Maraschli,
Thank you for your inquiry about the TXRZ50. Unfortunately, the Dirac feature add-on charges are only through Dirac. We only provide the firmware for the product so that the customers could use the features when Dirac has them available.
Thank you
Jennifer
How would I go about reporting a firmware issue with the rz50 since the october update? There is an issue concerning the SB and rear height channels, where it appears to be silencing the amp and turning back on, causing a crackling noise. I specifically notice it when toggling thru menus on my fire tv or apple tv. I initially thought it was wiring but Ive troubleshooted each part of the system and switched out wiring speakers and tested with my other surrounds. I then found a few forums on where others are experiencing the same issue on facebook and other sites. Here is a forum example below:
https://www.avsforum.com/threads/onkyo-rz50-nr7100-rear-atmos-speakers-clicking-poping-issue-with-video-showing-the-issue-workaround-found.3299703/
this issue seems to only appear when there are rear heights and surround back speakers connected (7.1.4) and some signal is sent to reciever, whether changing channels in tv or scrolling thru apps on fire tv/apple tv/roku
