    My TXNR696 worked fine until I let it do the firmware update now it randomly stops using the arc sound feedback from the TV.  If I unplug everything including power and wait overnight it works the next few days then does it again.  Already bought new hdmi cables and have been reading forums and know now that this is a common problem with no solution.  I have done all the online troubleshooting I could find and nothing helps.  I wish I had read those before buying this model. Bought it october 6th of this year.

    I have the same problem with the TX NR 797. I cannot get sound via ARC, although the remote for the TV appears to control the receiver and indicates volume up and down and mute, but no sound.

    Same problem, I sent under warranty 2 months ago, and it has been a telling experience, my 696 has been on a great adventure into the murky world of warranty repair. Seems that the repair shop is trying to run out my warranty period! I can only hope that the repair itself is warrantied .

    I have submitted a few questions regarding this ordeal  to Onkyo , I will see who answers first!
