TX-SR393 - Connecting to the TV
Connection between an Onkyo receiver/amplifier and a TV differs depending on whether the TV supports the ARC (Audio Return Channel) function or not.
- The ARC function transmits the audio signals of the TV via an HDMI cable, and plays the audio of the TV on this unit.
- HDMI ARC can pass through hi-resolution multichannel audio. -5.1 7.1 etc.
- To check if the TV supports the ARC function, refer to the instruction manual of the TV, etc.
-
Make sure the CEC setting is enabled for devices complying with the CEC standard.
- Most modern TV's support HDMI ARC
- HDMI eARC is a new format that supports Dolby Atmos but it is also backwards compatible with ARC devices.
What is CEC?
"Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) is a feature of HDMI designed to control HDMI connected devices by using only one remote controller; so, individual CEC enabled devices can command and control each other without user intervention, for up to 15 devices."
How to connect AVR to the TV via ARC
Connect a single HDMI cable from the Main ARC output of the receiver to the ARC or eARC labeled HDMI port on the TV. Many modern TV's will automatically recognize the ARC device being connected and will send audio to the receiver without any additional setup. You may need to set the audio output to HDMI ARC or Audio system if the TV doesn't set it up automatically.
To Non-ARC TV (Digital Optical connection)
If the Tv does not have an ARC option or you choose not to use it, we recommend Digital Optical connection as the next best route. It will still pass a digital multichannel surround soundtrack just like the ARC connection will but will not have CEC control or pass video.
After connecting with a digital optical cable - select the Audio to output through Digital Optical in the TV settings and turn off the TV speakers.

My high speed HDMI cable works fine with the sound bar, which is compatible with my ROKU tv. However, disconnecting the cable from my sound bar to connect to the AV receiver, there is no response. I cannot make the speakers work. However, in tuner mode, the speakers work fine. I believe the fault is in the receiver.
AV (TX-SR393) is connected to a new Samsung TV. When power is turned on for both, the sound comes out of the TV speakers for a second or so then stops. It takes about 20 seconds or so for AV surround sound to come through. How to start AV sound immediately after TV & AV are turned on?
Av(Tx-Sr393) conectó a TV Sony por Hdmi no empareja. Por cable óptico si funciona. Será que necesito un cable especial? Gracias
